[o]estrogen and progesterone
Estrogen and progesterone are hormones. Hormones are chemical messengers secreted directly into the blood. They affect the activity of another part of the body. In essence, hormones serve as messengers, controlling and coordinating activities throughout the body.
[o]estrogen dominance
Estrogen dominance simply means that oestrogen is too high in comparison to progesterone at the point in the cycle where progesterone should be high (e.g. the luteal phase).
luteal phase
The luteal phase is the latter phase of the menstrual cycle or the earlier phase of the estrous cycle. It begins with the formation of the corpus luteum and ends in either pregnancy or luteolysis.
[o]estrous cycle
Estrogen dominance simply means that oestrogen is too high in comparison to progesterone at the point in the cycle where progesterone should be high (e.g. the luteal phase).
corpus luteum
A corpus luteum is a mass of cells that forms in an ovary and is responsible for the production of the hormone progesterone during early pregnancy. The role of the corpus luteum depends on whether or not fertilization occurs.
PCOS
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels. The ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid (follicles) and fail to regularly release eggs.
PMS
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) has a wide variety of signs and symptoms, including mood swings, tender breasts, food cravings, fatigue, irritability and depression. It's estimated that as many as 3 of every 4 menstruating women have experienced some form of premenstrual syndrome.
Fourth Trimester
12-week period of significant emotional and physical changes immediately after a baby is born as the baby adjusts to life outside of the womb and the mother adjusts to her new life.
