Arts & Culture

Studies have proven what most cultures and people have always known that art matters in all its glorious forms. We have used visual arts, stories, dance and chants for healing in ritual and daily life throughout recorded history. Yet, somewhere along the line, we have placed it on the back burner or even deemed it to have less importance than science and technology. Our disconnection from art and culture has gotten us into a lot of trouble in all aspects of life, from the spiritual to the mundane. It has wounded the psyche of the individual and the collective. We've become disconnected from our true nature! Art helps us connect to spirit. It ignites the creative spark revealing the shadow and opening the door to new ways of doing things. It also heals - click here to continue reading.

Track #9: Shadow

Lyrics

You are
the breath of my sorrow.
You are
a faint hearted arrow,
the fading of light.

We are
the sum of our heros
yours are
all echoes and shadows
a dawn breaking night.

We are weeds, we are flowers.
Every warning, a prayer.
Which of us isn't I?
I'm afraid, I am high.
We are the same in half.

Art Heals

Music can calm neural activity in the brain. Listening to music reduces anxiety and can help to restore effective functioning in the immune system. Looking at art and even creating it improves mental health. Science has verified that expressing ourselves through art heals our very being from symptoms of depression and anxiety to cancer, too. Creative expression through art and even experiencing it through our senses is directly linked to improved memory, reasoning, and resilience.

Stressing the importance of arts to inspire, engage and embolden humans is an understatement. You'll find Mindful Soul Center magazine's current and past articles and media on music, visual, interactive, plastic & graphic arts, theatre, poetry, animations and creative culture in all forms here.

Let's not have art go by the wayside without any forethought as we have the dodo bird. According to Encyclopedia Britannica the dodo was extinct by 1681, the Réunion solitaire by 1746, and the Rodrigues solitaire by about 1790. The dodo is frequently cited as one of the most well-known examples of human-induced extinction and also serves as a symbol of obsolescence with respect to human technological progress.
