Sexism is also gender discrimination. It is prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s sex or gender. Sexism can affect any gender, however, it is particularly documented as affecting women and girls. A byproduct of stereotypes, gender roles and bias found in the English language it can include the belief that one sex or gender is inherently superior to another. Sexism can foster sexual harassment, rape, and other forms of sexual violence, abuse and misconduct.
