Editor's Letter

Dear Reader,

December is a celebratory time for me, not just because there are a series of commercial and religious holidays. It’s my anniversary! That day some years ago, when I entered this realm of existence on the planet- yes - it’s my birthday. It is also the month that I reignited my yoga practice a few years ago after a period of illness. Yoga helped me through and healed me in many ways. And my yoga journey is the reason why this magazine exists today. So, for me, it is mostly a joyous time. But there are some years when it seems like it is hard to find joy in the holiday season.

Whether we are socially active or not this holiday season, we can be especially stressed or sensitive during this time. For many, this time can be filled with feelings of loneliness, anticipation and desire for things we have not yet manifested into our lives. We might also find ourselves getting caught up in comparisonitis, or over-buying. Perhaps we feel obligated to attend events that we do not want to go to, or we simply want things to be something they are not.

It can bring out the best in us and the worst. Every year changes - every year is different. As the Earth spins on its axis and the Sun dances with it spinning us in circles through the vast cosmos, follow your light. Find the spark, the glimmer even when it’s dark. 

I am asking you to forgive yourself if you are feeling any of these things. And give yourself permission to feel your feelings and understand that as we move through this holiday season and into a new year that our tough shells can soften as we shed our past. I am asking you to reflect on what has come before and what has yet to come. But not to stay there. Take what you’ve learned and integrate it into your life. Do your best each day as you move forward.

Where will you go? What do you want your life to look like? Who do you want to share it with? Take some time to reflect and meditate. You can find some music meditations on our website if you need help to rest your mind. You’ll find Integration, a 15-minute music meditation in the first issue. This month we have a meditation for sleep. 

Now before you delve into what’s inside, know that I appreciate you! That’s not some marketing mumbo jumbo to get likes and whatnot (although they are appreciated too). It’s the truth. I’m ‘corny’ and sentimental and not going to pretend otherwise. That’s why we have some holiday gifts for you. There are colouring pages (not holiday-oriented) that you can print and colour. You'll also find two audio bonuses where I narrate this issue’s poem, a classic Christmas tale. There's a hip-hop version and a sugar plum version too!
